This fall, 36 juniors and seniors from KIPP Gaston College Prep Pride High School are facilitating non-partisan, student-led voter registration drives across eastern Carolina. Before heading out into the community, all of the students participated in a class hosted by the County Board of Elections to learn more about the voter registration process. Students then developed banners, t-shirts, postcards, and other materials to encourage voter registration and are hosting drives at home games and community events.
Want to see them in action? Check out their booth at KIPP ENC’s Annual Fall Festival on September 29th or at the Enfield Peanut Festival on October 6th!
Dy’Mond Holder, Pride of 2019 “I joined the voter registration project because I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to vote. Voting is a chance to express your views and voting is a way to express your vote. It’s your civic duty to create a more perfect union.”
Arionna Smith, Pride of 2019: “It’s important to inform others about how valuable it is to not only register, but also to vote. I love educating people about the early voting deadline and listening to their many opinions about being eligible to vote.”
