This August, KIPP ENC hosted its first One Pride Retreat in Virginia Beach, a two-day professional development retreat for all full-time instructional and operations staff. In addition to role-specific trainings and activities, staff had the opportunity to explore the themes from this year’s summer reading: Is Everyone Really Equal? An Introduction to Key Concepts in Social Justice Education and Lost and Found: Helping Behaviorally Challenging Students (and, While You’re at It, All the Others).
Participants also had the chance to learn from several leading education experts, including instructors from Research for Better Teaching; Dr. Camika Royal, an urban education expert whose work focuses on the intersections of race, politics, history, and urban school reform; Dr. Hasan Davis, a performer, youth advocate and motivator; and Dr. Michellana Jester, the manager of MIT Sloan School of Management’s Action Learning Program.
Our staff left energized to begin the school year with a shared vision for serving over 2,000 KIPP ENC students, alumni, and families.
Thank you to everyone who made our One Pride Retreat a success!
